Maps]], [[http://maps.google.com/maps?q=655+High+St.,+Palo+Alto,+California|Google Maps]])\\ Palo Alto, California 94301\\ Web: http://www.socialtext.com ===== About ===== Web Monday is an informal gathering (in and around Germany) aimed at bringing together developers, designers, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, researchers, web pioneers, inventors, bloggers, podcasters, end users and other folks interested in web 2.0 (in the broadest sense). The goal is to better connect the German web 2.0 scene as well as improve transatlantic idea exchange between Germany and the US (and -- hopefully -- help bring some of those good Silicon Valley vibes to Germany). Since its inception in November 2005, Web Monday has spread fast: [[history|meetings]] are now being held in a number of German cities on a regular basis (among them 7 of the nation's top 10 biggest) and have attracted several hundred repeat participants so far (see [[Web Monday - Zahlen, Daten, Fakten (2006/06)|statistics]]). ===== Who should attend and why? ===== Anyone involved in web 2.0 or neighboring fields who has an interest in German-US business (or any kind of "bridging" between the two, for that matter) is most welcome to join. Whether you are from Germany and live and work here in Silicon Valley (//and// want to help spread the love), or whether you are from Silicon Valley and have ties to Germany -- Web Monday Silicon Valley is your chance to present your product, your service, your startup, your cool new project or your next big idea to a growing audience of German web aficionados. ===== Agenda ===== ==== 6.30-7.30pm - Warm-up ==== //Arrival.// We plan to serve drinks and light snacks (we may ask for a small contribution from those who can afford it). ;-) ==== 7.30-8.30pm - Presentations, Demos ==== //Demos, presentations, talks...// * [[james_-_concept_and_prototypical_implementation_of_an_xml-aggregator_for_multimedia_content]]: I'll be giving an overview of my diploma thesis and some of concepts I developed. I'll probably focus on the aggregation of what I call "universal content" and techniques to automatically handle information overflow. ([[person:gernot_poetsch]]) * [[mnemo_-_an_alternative_approach_for_working_creatively_and_investigatively_with_websources]]: [[http://www.mnemo.org/about/|more]]. It's still //alpha// and that's because we want an open discussion about the research and investigation possibilities a network like the web should have. In this spirit we'll present [[http://mnemo.org/|mnemo]]. What are your wishes for a new way of searching the web? what is boring? what should be better? what is ok? mnemo is a suggestion and it will be improved day by day. [[http://sendreceive.de|send|receive]] * [[hyperscope]] is [[doug_engelbart]]'s latest effort to bring advanced navigation and linking capabilities to the Web. Then I wouldn't have to take CalTrain... ([[person:gernot_poetsch]]) ==== Date ==== * We're thinking about doing a follow-up event in about three months from now, around late August or early September maybe. * Or how about a littel sooner than that? * Some time around late July (BlogHer) or early August (Apple's WWDC)? Let us know if you're visiting from Germany during that time. * I'll be in San Francisco for WWDC and would come to Webmontag (and do a presentation there) if it's on August 14th - [[person:gernot_poetsch]] * We're looking at three dates right now: * July 31 (following BlogHer) * August 14 (following Apple's WWDC) * August 28 (prior to Burning Man) * The German-Austrian-team of [[person:leo_sauermann]] (http://www.dfki.uni-kl.de/~sauermann/) and [[person:lars_zapf]] (http://www.larszapf.de/) is visiting Burning Man 2006. There is a CFP for the: "2nd International Conference on Scientific Breakthroughs In Harsh Desert Environments INCONSISDENT2006" at http://burningman2006.blogspot.com/. That's the funny side. But we are also there for working. In order to do, we want to have a Web Monday date either at Burning Man or one week later in the vally (Palo Alto prefered). * For my team, 28.08. would be the better option, because we are visiting from 25.8.-09.09. and September 04 is the last day of Burning Man, when the man is burned down. So alternatively we could also meet at BM? Furthermore I know some guys at Feedster and Feedburner, perhaps they will join. Also Leo knows David in L.A. who works remotely for MIT. He can also join.
